When did you first decide you wanted to be an artist?
I am not sure if that it was a such decision but everything started in 1994 when I went to the Vienna School of Art.
Where do you find inspiration for your creations?
It could be everything crazy ideas can give birth to a character, commissions , it can be music, movies, religion, comics, toys and so on…
Does music play a role in the creative process, and who are listening to?
It sure does. I think that listening music during the work can have influence on the personal mood and so it can indirect have influence on the look and feeling of the work.
What super secret projects do you have in the works that you can share with us?
Nothing super secret but currently I work on three illustrations for the “We Love 8 Bit” Show.
Tell us a little about what got you into 3D character design, and Wippo.
In 2005 I started to work more with vector and 3D and later started Theodoru.com since then I constantly worked with 3D software and created characters and so when the time was right Wippo was born. It was one character that I have created for one of my illustrations.
Later in 2011 I begun to do some collaboration work with Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas from CircusPosterus andas part of this collaboration Wippo was produced as resin toy with the help of Brandt and Kathie. Currently we have Wippo as DIY toy available at www.circusposterus/3d.
What is your favorite meal of the day? And where are we going to eat when we come out to visit?
Definitely the lunch and I will take you to a typical Austrian Bier Pub, called 7Stern Bräu. They have some wonderful self made bier and typical delicious Austrian food.
Do you have a type of medium you prefer to work in, and why?
I work on different kind of media like digital photo compositing, drawing and painting , vector illustration but my favorite one (at the time :)) is 3D. I have loved 3D animations since I first saw the ReBoot series back in the 90′s and since then I wanted to do something like that, but at that time hardware and software to do things like that were much too expensive. It was during my Creative Media Design study time at SAE College in Vienna in 2005, when I came in contact with Cinema 4D and started to learn 3D and love it since then.
Some artists that you admire.
James Jarvis, Katie Olivas, Jeff Soto, Mark Ryden, Gary Baseman, Brandt Peters, Travis Louie and the list could continue with Dave McKean the classic surrealists, Hieronymus bosh and so on…
To be part of the Romanian Revolution in 1989 and to risk my life. I was lucky and only got three times wounded.
When did you get into toy collecting ,and what are some of your favorites!
The madness begun around 2007 and started with The Monsterism by Peter Fowler. Today I love the CircusPosterus toys, Dunny’s, Gary Baseman, Huck Gee, Kaws, and my biggest love are Disney Vintage Ledraplastic toys from the 60’s and 70’s.
How does a typical day start?
Doing the morning toilet followed by coffee and if I am in the mood and have enough time I draw an character sketch in my sketch book before I go in the office.
If you could go anywhere in the world for a visit where would it be, and why?
San Diego Comic Con. Because at least once in life you have to join the collective madness.
